Uber/Lyft Accident Types We Handle in Northwest Indiana

Every accident is unique, and our ride-sharing accident attorney team has worked with lots of them. While your case will come with its complexities, accidents typically fall into one of the following categories.

We think it’s essential that you know about the types of Uber/Lyft accidents, so let’s look at some of the most common kinds of incidents we deal with and what they involve.

  • T-Bone Accidents

T-Bone accidents, or side-impact collisions, occur when Lyft and Uber drivers make illegal u-turns to reach a passenger more quickly. You will have a claim if a driver makes this illegal maneuver while you’re in the car or if your vehicle is impacted by a collision caused by their unexpected and unlawful turn.

  • Rear-End Collisions

Rear-end collisions aren’t necessarily the fault of the driver at the rear. If a driver stops illegally or unexpectedly, then the driver behind the vehicle cannot be held responsible if they didn’t have enough time to break.

We find that Uber and Lyft drivers are more likely to brake unexpectedly when trying to find passengers in unfamiliar locations.

  • Sideswipe Collisions

Sideswipe collisions are also prevalent with ride-share drivers. In our experience, drivers may easily be distracted by their cell phone, which is used to accept and find new drivers. And when you’re not focused on the ride, sideswipe collisions can occur very quickly.

Don’t think your accident fits neatly into one of these categories? Don’t fret. We’ve got an Uber accident attorney perfect for you, and we’re always happy to discuss your case in an initial consultation.

Common Uber/Lyft Injuries

You may incur an Uber or Lyft injury if you’re in the vehicle driven by a ride-share driver or in a vehicle hit by a ride-share driver during an accident. We know that every accident is different, but the most common kinds of Uber/Lyft injuries we deal with include:

  • Concussion

A concussion can occur whether you’re in the ride-share car or the vehicle hit in a collision. If you hit your head while in your car and suffer a concussion, we can seek compensation.

  • Whiplash

Whiplash is most common in people over the age of 40 and requires urgent medical attention when it occurs. It involves a ringing in the ear, neck and shoulder pain, and general dizziness.

  • Brain Injuries

Sadly, brain injuries are fairly common in vehicle crashes. Such injuries can cause life-long and permanent damage, and compensation greatly helps family members take care of impacted loved ones.

  • Lower Back Injuries

Lower-back injuries can be long-lasting and permanent. If a lower-back injury has impacted you, we’ll seek compensation to cover the treatment, pain, inconvenience, and loss of work.

  • Herniated Disks

A herniated disk is a rupture in the central part of the discs in your spine. These are the cushions between the bones in your spine, and when damage is done, it causes extreme pain that requires medical attention, drugs, and care.

  • Loss of Limb

Losing a limb is traumatic and life-changing, and compensation will be sought to pay for the trauma and experience as well as the long-term costs of living with such an injury.

  • Death

If a loved one dies due to a ride-share accident that wasn’t their fault, then compensation can be sought for the family of the victim. While justice is never done in tragedies like this, we’ll seek damages that come as close as possible.

  • Paralysis

Paralysis can be permanent or temporary, but even temporary paralysis is surprisingly common in ride-share accidents and deserves serious compensation.

  • Broken Bones

Broken bones might heal, but they cause significant disruption to your life and can even lead to permanent injury and problems. We’ll seek damages based on any loss of work, inconvenience, pain, and long-term suffering.

I was referred to Josh Malher for an eviction I had to file. First time meeting Josh, I was impressed how quickly and professionally everything was handled; esp because time is of the essence in these matters. He answered every text, email and phone call almost immediately. He also followed up afterwards to offer any other assistance if needed going forward. Thank you Josh! FAQ

Can you still be an Uber/Lyft driver after a car accident?

When an Uber driver gets into a serious accident, they will no longer be able to work for the ride-sharing services. Helping to protect the public in this way is one of the reasons why it’s critical to file a compensation claim if you’re injured as a result of a negligent driver.

Uber/Lyft will typically terminate the driver and require that they pay a deductible, their account will be deactivated, and they will no longer be able to work for the ride-share companies.

Is Uber/Lyft responsible for accidents?

Uber and Lyft carry third-party liability insurance covering all drivers for up to $1 million in property damage or personal injuries for each accident.

If the Uber/Lyft app is switched on and a ride-sharing is in progress when the accident occurs, the liability could fall on the driver and their insurance. If the accident occurs when the Uber driver is driving in a personal capacity, they could be liable but won’t be covered by their ride-share insurance.

What happens if you get in an accident with Uber or Lyft in Lake County, Indiana?

If you’ve experienced an accident involving a ride-share driver that wasn’t your fault, Uber and Lyft encourage you to get in touch.

At Stracci Law Group, we can also handle the entire process. After promptly seeking medical attention, get in touch with us. We’ll examine your case, determine whether you’re liable for compensation and roughly how much, and we’ll deal with the communication until we achieve justice.

Can I sue Uber/Lyft after a car accident?

Yes! Stracci Law Group helps you take action if you’re the victim of an injury or vehicle damage because of a negligent Uber or Lyft driver. You can sue to ride-share driver for compensation, or you may sue the company directly, depending on your case.

We’ll help you determine the best course of action based on your individual situation and the goals you would like to achieve.
