Maryrachel was born in Shelbyville, Indiana, but grew up in the Greater Boston Area. She attended Boston University, where she graduated with honors in Political Science and Philosophy. There, she found her love of the law, interning at a small criminal law firm where she assisted with legal research. She went on to also intern with the U.S. Department of Justice, where she worked on finding alternative options to incarceration for those suffering from opioid addiction.
She returned to Indiana to attend Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where she graduated with honors. She was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, where membership is limited to those law school graduates who exhibit exceptional skill in trial advocacy, oral advocacy, and brief writing. She was also awarded the Faegre Drinker Pro Bono Publico award for her dedication to pro bono public service. During law school, Maryrachel took on a full misdemeanor caseload as a Certified Legal Intern with the Marion County Public Defender Agency and found her love for trying cases.
After law school, she became a full-time public defender in Marion County, quickly becoming responsible for a major felony caseload and gaining extensive experience in analyzing cases, negotiating plea agreements, and conducting trials in a myriad of types of criminal cases, from misdemeanors to Level 1 Felonies.
Some of Maryrachel’s proudest accomplishments include obtaining a not-guilty jury verdict on two counts of Level 3 Rape, achieving a not-guilty judgment for a client charged with Level 6 Neglect of a Dependent, suppressing a confession made by a client charged with a felony drug offense, convincing the State to dismiss prostitution charges that would have cost the client her teaching job, and successfully arguing a non-jail time sentence for a client charged with Level 3 Dealing in Methamphetamine, Level 5 Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 5 Felon Carrying a Handgun, and multiple misdemeanor offenses.
While Maryrachel loves being in court and prides herself on the outcomes she obtains, what she loves most about being an attorney is learning about the person behind the case; it is her mission to make every client feel heard, informed, involved, and important from their first conversation to the resolution of their case.
Maryrachel now brings her passion for client-centered representation and dedication to finding the best outcome for every client to Stracci Law Group. Outside of work, Maryrachel enjoys running, collecting houseplants, and spending time with her three dogs, Earl the miniature schnauzer, Obie the Italian greyhound, and Pharaoh the Great Dane.
